Join Bill Mares for a discussion of his latest book, a heartwarming story of his experience running the Boston Marathon. The Bach Road to Boston tells the story of a weekend ten years ago when Bill sang Bach's "St. Matthew Passion" on Easter Sunday and then ran the Boston Marathon the next day. More broadly, this book is about the interweaving of two hobbies of singing and running.

Raised in Texas, educated at Harvard, Bill Mares has been a journalist, high school teacher and member of the Vermont House of Representatives. He has authored or co-authored 13 books on subjects ranging from the Marine Corps to workplace democracy to desert travel to...

Phoenix Books is excited to co-host this event with VT Mommies!  Here are the details, from VT Mommies:

"The writers at VT Mommies love to share our stories. Connecting Vermont moms is our passion, but to truly be the voice of all Vermont moms, we need to hear from you! Find a pen, crayon, or time at your iPad and, in 1,000 words or less, tell us about the first time you really felt like a mom. Was it the test drive of a mini-van, the late night sewing of a Halloween costume, the first gummy smile of your newborn? Write it down and then join us for an evening of Adult Story Time on Tuesday, May 14th at Phoenix Books at the Essex Outlets in Essex.

Celebrate all the delicious flavors that Vermont has to offer at this event with Tracey Medeiros!  Meet Tracey and enjoy samples from her new book The Vermont Farm Table Cookbook.  (Might we suggest, too, that a signed copy of The Vermont Farm Table Cookbook makes a perfect Mother's Day gift?)

When Tracey Medeiros wrote Dishing Up Vermont in 2008, she wanted to showcase the chefs and restaurateurs who were dazzling taste buds with their fresh, whole‐food creations. With The Vermont Farm Table Cookbook, Medeiros has traversed the Green Mountain State once again, in search of not only those celebrated chefs but the hard‐working...

Join us to celebrate the work of young artists from Poker Hill Arts!  This event is free and open to the public, and everyone is invited.

Poker Hill Arts is an after school art program and summer day camp conceived and run by Chris Gluck in Underhill, Vermont. Each school day, about 20 energetic, fun-loving kids, ages 5-12, come pouring off the bus at Chris's home studio for an afternoon of art or crafts. After some outdoor time and a snack, they usually have a calming, centering activity, such as yoga. Then comes the project of the day, which might include drawing, painting, sculpting, engineering, and/or crafting. When finished with the day's project, the children have the opportunity to draw in their...
