Poets Reading the News:

Celebrating the Vital Role of Poetry in Responding to World Events
Event date:
Friday, August 2, 2019 - 6:30pm

In times of darkness, poetry is essential reading. Please join us for a poetry reading and discussion of the power of poetry to respond immediately to events shaping our future with Elle Aviv Newton, Caitlin Gildrien, and Yvonne Daley.

About the Poets:

Elle Aviv Newton is a poet and editor of Poets Reading the News, a journal for the poetics of current events that has redefined the pace of the poetry world to match the speed and scope of the breaking news cycle as it advocates for the role of poetry in conversations about urgent topics from technology to politics, climate change to gun violence. Her writing and criticism has appeared in numerous publications, on radio programs and podcasts, and was recently adapted for the stage. She has been featured on NPRKPFAEast Bay ExpressIvoh Mag, and other places.

Caitlin Gildrien is a writer, graphic designer, and erstwhile farmer living at the feet of the Green Mountains of Vermont. Her work has recently appeared in the Hopper, Rattle, the Rumpus, Rise Up Review, and Poets Reading the News.
Yvonne Daley is the author of six nonfiction books and the upcoming Circles in the Wilderness, a collection of poetry written since the 2016 election. She is the director of the Green Mountain Writers Conference. Her poetry has appeared in Tendril, Three Sundays, Poets Reading the News, and other publications.
