Kate Messner and Linda Urban

Reader Friends, Writer Friends
Friday, April 9, 2021 - 7:00pm
Event address:
Phoenix Zoom Channel

Bring your best writer or reader pal to this online celebration of friendship, reading, and writing as award-winning writers Kate Messner and Linda Urban discuss the ways they support each other’s creative work from the first glimmer of an idea, through terrible first drafts, meaningful critique, and –hooray – publication day!  Kate will share examples from History Smashers: The Titanic, the latest in her graphic nonfiction series aimed at unraveling historical myths. Linda will share early and finished pages from her new middle-grade novel, Almost There and Almost Not, the story of a young girl, two ghosts, and the overwhelming longing for a place to call home. A perfect evening for writers, readers, and friends of all ages.

Kate Messner lives on Lake Champlain with her family. Her books have been New York Times Notable, Junior Library Guild, IndieBound, and Bank Street Best Books selections. Her novel The Brilliant Fall of Gianna Z. won the E. B. White Read Aloud Award, and her science picture books have been finalists for the American Academy for the Advancement of Sciences/Subaru SB&F prize for excellence in science writing. Before becoming a full-time writer, Kate was a TV news reporter as well as an educator who spent fifteen years teaching middle school English.

Linda Urban is the author of many award-winning, well-loved books for kids, including A Crooked Kind of Perfect, Road Trip with Max and his Mom, and Mouse was Mad.  She teaches writing for children and young adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
