Join Karen Newman for the launch of her new book, Just Three Words: Athlete, Mother, Survivor. How One Brave Woman Against All Odds Wins the Race of Her Life.
We have all faced challenges in our lives, but how often do we ponder the role that words have played in those struggles? Are we fully aware of the insidious power words have to redefine the way we see ourselves and how we relate to the world? The heart-breaking reality is that the negative words seem to sink the deepest, and we are often co-conspirators, perpetuating the lies that others have told us or implied. So what do we do? How do we break free? Karen Newman will address these questions head on.
The author will donate 10% of her profits from event book sales to local charities.
ABOUT THE BOOK: When world-class triathlete Karen Newman was on her knees begging for her life to end, just three words changed everything. Newman’s gripping, intimate and contagiously inspiring story of facing her darkest secrets and overcoming incredible challenges will touch reader’s hearts in a powerful, life-changing way. Told with grace and humor, Karen weaves the agonies of anorexia, bulimia and cancer with the thrill of young love, miraculous wins on the racecourse, and the exhilaration of victory over disease. Brimming with the wisdom forged only in the valleys of despair and the highest mountaintop moments, Just Three Words captures the indomitable spirit of one brave woman who—against all odds—triumphs and finds the purpose in it all.
"The most powerful Olympic stories are those of athletes who have faced genuine adversity in their lives and not only persevered but somehow thrived. Karen Newman's journey is as inspiring and compelling as any Olympic athlete I've ever seen. She is grace and grit personified and whether you're a world class athlete, a weekend warrior or just want to be moved, you'll want to read her story."
—Jim Bell: Executive Producer, NBC Olympics
"Karen Newman’s life, as described in this compelling book, serves as an inspiration for families and patients but also for the doctors and researchers working to overcome cancer. Just Three Words demonstrates healing on multiple levels, and Karen as a heroic participant."
—Dr. Clifford Hudis, MD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: Chief of the Breast Medicine Service, past President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
