An Evening of Poetry with David Mook, Joyce Thomas and Bianca Zanella

Join David Mook, Joyce Thomas, and Bianca Zanella for an evening of poetry in celebration of National Poetry Month!


David Mook (center) is the author of Corn-Pone 'Pinions . Awards include Second Prize in The 2005 Allen Ginsberg Poetry Awards. Mook’s poems and essays have appeared in numerous publications including Bereavement Magazine, Birchsong – Poetry Centered in Vermont, Dogwood, Ellipsis, Friends Journal, Passager, Paterson Literary Review, and several anthologies. Mook earned an MFA in Writing from Vermont College and teaches at Castleton University. He sponsors the annual Sarah Mook Poetry Contest for students in grades K-12.

A Professor of English at Castleton University, Vermont, Joyce Thomas (left) teaches courses in world and children’s literature; she is the author of one non-fiction work, Inside the Wolf’s Belly: Aspects of the Fairy Tale (Sheffield Academic Press, England), and two collections of poetry: Skins (Fithian Press) and Washing Birds (Main Street Rag Publishing Co.). Her poetry has appeared in various small press magazines and journals, as well as anthologies, including Birchsong: Poetry Centered in Vermont, eds. Gilborn, Hunter, Cone, Nicholson and Stillman (The Blueline Press); The Poets’ Grimm: 20th Century Poems from Grimm Fairy Tales, eds. Jeanne Marie Beaumont and Claudia Carlson (Story Line Press); and Orpheus and Company: Contemporary Poems on Greek Mythology, ed. Deborah DeNicola (University Press of New England). Poetry awards include the James Hearst Poetry Prize (North American Review).

Bianca Amira Zanella’s (right) poems have most recently appeared in The Mountain Troubadour and The Reverie. The recipient of a 2014 Robert T. Marsh Memorial Prize for Excellence in Writing and a 2017 Green Mountain Scholarship, Bianca plans to finalize her initial poetry as social change manuscript while studying at Vermont College of Fine Arts in the MFA for Writing and Publishing program. Bianca has workshopped under the BreakBeat Poets, DarkMatter, Aja Monet, and Sarah Kay. In addition to facilitating poetry performance workshops and teaching writing camps, Bianca has judged the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest and two National Poetry Slams. She has also served as Editor for her college arts magazine and helps to host literary and storytelling programs at Stone Valley Arts in Poultney, VT.
