Haley's Picks

Reading has always been a big part of Haley's life, coming from a family of avid readers, and so it makes sense that she has worked in several independent bookstores. Haley loves curling up with a good book, or any book, and reading anything and everything from general fiction to sci-fi/fantasy and some mystery too. Ask her what she's reading and she will be more than happy to tell you about her latest great read!

"Kill the Farm Boy" is a witty take on the classic fairytale story including but not limited to a very rude talking goat, a scrawny and hopeless farm boy, and a resentful chain-mail bikini-clad warrior. Several times I actually laughed out loud during this book. So clever and well written. If you are in need of a feel-good and funny book, you have come to the right place.

A hauntingly beautiful story of three sisters separated at birth. Each told that one day they will compete against their sisters for the throne. One trained in poison, one in fire, and one in nature. As you follow each story and learn about each princess you have no idea which one will come out on the other side. Soooo good!

Leigh Bardugo’s second series takes place in the same universe as Shadow and Bone, however, Six of Crows follows a motley gang as they plan a dangerous heist and figure out how to work together. Such a beautifully spun story full of twists and turns that I never saw coming. Bardugo is such a brilliant author who spins tales that come alive.

Madeline Miller’s Circe reimagines one of the most common Greek stories, giving a voice to Circe, a banished witch, that paints her as a multifaceted and evolving character. As Circe learns about herself and as she struggles between the worlds of the gods and mortals, Miller expertly gives us a feminist slant on the Odyssey. Even if you aren’t a fan of Greek mythology, you will not be able to put this book down! This is one of my all time favorite books!
