When We Were Vikings by Andrew David MacDonald is such a good read about Zelda, who idolizes Vikings. She lives her life by certain guidelines and when her brother starts doing questionable things, Zelda must reevaluate how to live life, what is right and what is wrong. Reading has always been a big part of Haley's life, coming from a family of avid readers, and so it makes sense that she has worked in several independent bookstores. Haley loves curling up with a good book, or any book, and reading anything and everything from general fiction to sci-fi/fantasy and some mystery too. Ask her what she's reading and she will be more than happy to tell you about her latest great read!

Drenched in African myth and folklore, and set in an astonishingly realized pre-colonized sub-Saharan region, Black Leopard, Red Wolf crawls with creatures and erects kingdoms unlike anything I’ve ever read before. The world Marlon James creates in Black Leopard, Red Wolf is written with such creative genius that his story comes to life with every chapter.

Paul Atreides moves with his family to the planet Dune and is forced into exile when his father's government is overthrown. A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune is a triumph of the imagination. Definitely my favorite book at the moment. Make sure to read it before the movie comes out!
Ten Thousand Doors of January is a dazzling historical fiction-fantasy hybrid. Alix Harrow uses vivid imagery to create her heroine and the magical worlds hidden behind doors in our world. She paces this action-packed novel beautifully, slowly revealing the truth as the reader races through the pages to discover the ultimate conclusion.
