Phoenix Books Essex is thrilled to present an evening with musician, songwriter, and author, Bobby Dean Hackney to celebrate his recently-released book, Vermont Reggae Fest The Power Of Music: The First Five Years In Burlington Vermont.

The Vermont Reggae Festival, born in Burlington Vermont in 1986, became an historic event forever etched into the musical history of the city. Achieving the manifestation of peace, love, celebration of life, joy, fun, and excitement through the power of Reggae music. The Vermont Reggae Festival was a musical happening given as a gift to each attendee-all for the whopping ticket price of...FREE!! A fun-filled time capsule back into the mid-eighties of a grass-roots idea conceived by founder Bobby Hackney that became a historic record-breaking crowd gathering event. All before the onslaught of cell phones and technology.

The legacy of Bobby Dean Hackney, his music and career spanning from Detroit Michigan to New England, and throughout America and the entire world, is etched in the history of rock music starting with the legendary band "DEATH" from Detroit Michigan in 1975, where and when Bobby, along with his two brothers formed a rock band and recorded music at Detroit's legendary United Sound Recording Studio, which almost forty years later gained worldwide recognition as rock music that pre-dated the "Punk Sound" by five years.

Bobby is also known as a stellar reggae musician and in 1986 conceived the concept for the now-legendary "Vermont Reggae Festival", which in its zenith in 1990, drew an estimated forty thousand people to Burlington, Vermont's North Beach Park. Bobby Hackney is a songwriter of a vast variety of styles; rock, reggae, blues, children's songs, gospel, and instrumental and is the author of the book Rock-N-Roll Victims:Story Of A Band Called Death.
