Cricket Cooper: Chemo Pilgrim *Book Launch*
Thursday, February 23, 2017 - 6:30pm
Join Cricket Cooper to celebrate the launch of her new book, Chemo Pilgrim: An 18-Week Journey of Healing and Holiness.
ABOUT THE BOOK: What if you reframed a cancer diagnosis as an invitation to enjoy your life more intensely than ever before? What if chemotherapy were a time to broaden your mind and expand your heart, making deeper connections with family and friends and new connections with everyone else you encountered? Chemo Pilgrim recounts such a journey, as the author balances each round of chemotherapy with a trip to a different monastery or holy site. The reader is invited along, into the quiet zendo of a Buddhist temple, the consulting rooms of a university hospital, the deep, mysterious sensuality of an Orthodox monastery, and more.
In Chemo Pilgrim, Cricket Cooper wrestles both with her own faith as an Episcopal priest and with her budding study of mindfulness, to find a way through cancer and chemotherapy that can keep her open on the journey, and alive to her own life.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Cricket Cooper has a BA in Creative Writing from Northwestern University, an MDiv from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, and 3/4ths of an MS in Communication Disorders from the University of Vermont. She has been published by Church Publishing, Inc., Forward Movement and Bride's magazine. Ordained an Episcopal priest in 1989, Cricket is also an enthusiastic fiber artist and bagpiper. Currently she is training to become a teacher of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. Cricket serves a parish in Western Massachusetts.
