As a lover of historical fiction, this book was right up my "genre", so to speak.  It is a fantasy-fiction story about real people from the royal family of England who have a magical ability to transform themselves.  It's based loosely on the lives of King Edward and his marriage to Lady Jane Grey.  It's narrated by the authors in modern day speech to gear it towards young readers today.  A great YA read for lovers of Philippa Gregory or the TV show Reign.

What if King Henry the 8th had fathered a son who survived?  I read almost exclusively from books based on the royal court of England-past so the idea of a surviving heir kind of rocked my world, but I stayed the course and continued to read as I fell in love with her heroine "Minuette" and her dashing hero as their love story grew and blossomed only to be thwarted by the Bolyen heir. This is book 1 of a trilogy and I've now read them all and am forcing another Phoenix employee to do the same.  A great, light read for lovers of Philippa Gregory.

This book for young adults holds all the excitement of Hunger Games with a bit of historical lore and fantasy thrown in.  The feisty heroine, Aileana, discovers both her mother being murdered and a world of fearsome faeries bent on destroying mankind.

While trying to hide her battle scars & maintain a proper lady's demeanor, Aileana designs weapons to defeat the banished faeries before they can escape the underworld.  The author, Elizabeth May, can capture her readers and transport them intro her fantasy world from the first chapter until the last gripping moments on the final page.  I can't wait for the next book!

I am a big fan of this author!  I've read everything she has done up to this book.  This book is a fictional account of a real Duchess in England and is filled with real, historical figures with whom she creates her own intrigues, romances, heart-aches and trials that they would have faced in the 1400's in Olde England.  Her characters come alive through her rich imagination and intense study of actual events in history.  If you liked The Other Boleyn Girl, you will love Jacquetta.
