Adam's Picks

Perhaps it all started when his parents took him at the ripe young age of three to the library. Adam could be found curled up on the floor with Tintin’s latest adventure. Not much has changed since then. Adam has studied literature for more than twelve years, both at home and abroad, specializing in medieval literature and the work of Chaucer. When not reading works from his favorite authors David Sedaris, David Levithan and Dave Eggers, (all named David, oddly enough) Adam enjoys poetry, political nonfiction and travel writing. When Adam cannot be found near a book, he may be teaching a lesson at Champlain Valley Union High School or perfecting his forehand on the Ultimate Frisbee field. Adam lives in Essex Junction with his partner Jen and their Hobbit-inspired feline companion Pippin.

Published: First Second - May 6th, 2014

As a child, I remember watching Andre the Giant tussle with Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania. Andre seemed so villainous as he fought my (then) hero. Box Brown's telling of Andre's life paints a much deeper picture of friendships, health problems, and an ego just as giant as the man himself. A must read for children of the 90s, lovers of all things retro, and graphic novel lovers.

When I scroll through my Twitter feed, I mostly read boring tweets attached to pictures of people's dinner. Twitter: The Comic, however, changes everything. What was once a boring tweet (i.e. "Cool race car bed, kid"...yawn) becomes an artistic tour de force when paired with Mike Rosenthal's blissfully ironic comics. Truly awesome.

Great for: social media enthusiasts, people who enjoy laughter
